Progressive Discipline

Discipline is a problem in a few schools. Typically the problem relates to boredom and lack of confidence that the education being offered is worthwile. A better curriculum will help. Changes in society will help more.

A well spelled out discipline program, consistent enforcement of the rules, and a willingness to separate miscreants from those interested in learning (suspension or more) works well for the Catholic schools in New Orleans. The blue vests and pay for performance used in the KIPP schools is another good example.

Mainstream schools must be able to enforce discipline. A safe productive environment should not depend on metal detectors and drug sniffing dogs.
