The Brill Streetcars were used before the Perley Thomas cars replaced them. This Brill has a coupler that was sometimes used to pull a "trailer car."

Trailers were used to increase the number of passengers accommodated at different times of day and for special public events. Trailers were not powered and were coupled to power cars to make a train of up to four cars (including the motor car). Trailers looked just like motor cars but had no motor. The last of the trailers was abolished in 1934.

Trains moved at up to 30 mph.

Motor cars could be towed when they broke down.
