February is Black History month. Public school students are encouraged to wear costumes, sing songs and dance dances evocative of African culture. Is this Black History?

What happened to blacks in New Orleans? Is it actually any different than other big city. The rest of this page is based on the idea that if you rely on facts, follow the money and consider factors influencing human motivation you'll find answers.

What follows is more than a stub, but is really just a starting point. Understanding what happened, what is happening and finding answers is the crucial sociological question that New Orleans must answer to once again thrive. The glossy, feel-good answers we've been hearing just aren't getting the job done. Entitlement, affirmative action, minority set asides, white flight, private institutions, these all perpetuate the agony. The actual answers need not be harsh, but they must be real and address everyone's concerns.
