Tax money spent on contracts with private corporations is growing fast in New Orleans as government is trying to outsource more of its traditional services to private companies. Not really privatization at all, this trend of government taking on more responsibility and collecting more taxes and then turning those responsibilities back to the private sector leads inevitably toward a kind of fascism called corporatism.

In the US government this practice has led to stronger lobbies and greater control over the executive and legislative branches by the private companies through persuasive influence including both legal and illegal means. Issues relating to campaign finance reform are tightly related to this trend.

New Orleans has historically had trouble managing its relationships with vendors as government officials regularly fall prey to corrupting influences.
