What is reality? How do we know what we know? Who do you believe? Is consensus the road
to truth? How far
into the Looking Glass do you want to peer? Philosophers call this exploration into what we know, epistomology.
We perceive the universe around us through our senses. Sight, hearing,
touch, smell, and taste provide us with a model that works well enough.
We survive and reproduce. That is an undeniable measure of success.
However our science reveals a universe vastly different than
that which we perceive.
Humans employ reason to unravel the knot. Logic, association, modeling, analogy, experience, contemplation, faith, even the scientific method are among the tools we employ.
Our philosophies are confused, sometimes contradictory and fragmented
across the major populations of the earth. Great religions promote
systems of faith, morality and ethics that are conceptually similar but differ vastly in the details. Our economic systems distribute wealth
according to agreements about the value of certain behaviors. Laws
become tangled over time and justice is inconsistent. Scientific controversy becomes enmeshed in
political strife.
What the bleep do we really know?I wouldn't say these guys have the answers, but they certainly pose some interesting and unusual questions as they attempt a synthesis.
