40,000 miles of pipelines
crisscross the wetlands. The environmental impact of the pipelines has
been significant as pipeline canals allow saltwater to invade the
marsh. It only takes a short boat trip before you begin to see the dead
Cypress trees and wonder what that is all about.
The Henry Hub between New Orleans and Lafayette is a strategic pipeline
hub and reference point for natural gas pricing throughout the
hemisphere. The proposed Freeport McMoran LNG port at Main Pass will
further the strategic nature of these pipelines and hubs.
