Harrahs, land based casino, never sails. The
casino's roof could be mistaken for three enormous tennis courts. The
actual courts are across convention center blvd at the Hilton.
This location is fabulous. Between the Convention Center just up river and the French Quarter just down river, it is at the foot of Canal Street surrounded by hotels and fun.
Harrah's didn't flood. It wasn't looted and it didn't burn. It was
closed for a while after the storm but it is up and running now.
In mid-June it was reported that Louisiana's casinos and Harrahs in
particular were experiencing a booming business. With $39 million in
winnings in May, Harrahs set new earning records. Cash rich recovery
workers and lack of competition from still closed Mississippi Gulf
Coast casinos were cited as reasons.
Mayo Nagin's casino gaming district seems like a better and better option every day.
