An old cotton plantation turned zoo. Tennis courts in the lower right.
The river batture is called the "Fly" and includes a dock for the John
James Audubon ferry to the Aquarium. The zoo is just to the north of
the Fly.
The park didn't flood. The animals stayed home and most are OK.
The land under Audubon Park represents the kind of place that could be
redeveloped into residential housing. On the natural levee it is an
ideal area for people to live. The park itself should be relocated to
nearby areas along the northern boundary of Tulane University that did
flood. The new park could be bigger and better and serve people better.
Can market forces make this happen?
