Memorial Medical Center operated by Tenet Healthcare Systems remains closed one year after the storm. Controversy swirls around this hospital because of the botched evacuation that left critical care patients to die in the hospital five days after the storm.
Another controversy now surrounds one of the doctors and two nurses who stayed behind. Dr. Anna Marie Pou, nurse Cheri Landry and nurse Lori Budo were accused of murder by State Attorney General Charles Foti. Eddie Jordan as Orleans DA presented the case to a Grand Jury and received a "No True Bill" ruling on July 24, 2007.
