This bridge crosses the Industrial Canal near the lake. New Orleanians
have long put up with traffic delays at this bridge because it is just
too steep for the cars and trucks we drive in this city. You need about
300 horsepower to maintain your speed and most New Orleanians get by
with about 30. There is usually a breakdown, so the three lanes are
normally constricted to two at rush hour. The delay is about 15 minutes
but what are you in such a hurry about anyway. Just crank up your radio
or jump on the phone.
It isn't far from the levee breaks that flooded the 9'th Ward and Chalmette.
