Hapless Director - a "fashion god" more concerned about his
"dog sitter" than "tweaking" the system. He didn't react well when things
were going south in the days after the storm and contributed to the
general malaise. Patted on the shoulder, "Brownie" was praised by Pres.
Bush then fired two days later. Testifying before Congress he was
compared to a deer caught in the headlights. He blamed local
politicians in Louisiana for the lousy response. Kept on the payroll
two months after termination.
He seems to be one of the political cronies appointed to this position
for loyalty rather than experience and capability. There's no telling
what he did to the middle management and processes in the organization
during his tenure.
Marty Bahamonde the only FEMA employee in New Orleans at the time of
the flood contradicted testimony from then ex-director Michael Brown
and produced emails to support his position. Bahomonde's famous
response when he was notified that Mr. Brown needed more than 30
minutes for dinner was:
"OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! NO won't go any further, too easy of a target. Just tell her that I just
ate an MRE and crapped in the hallway of the Superdome along wirh 30,000 other close
friends so I understand her concern about busy retaurants. Maybe tonight I will have time
to move the pebbles on the parking garage floor so they don't stab me in the back while L
try to sleep, but instaed I w i l l hope her wait at Ruth Chxist is short. But I know she is
stressed so I won't make a big deal about it and you shouldn't either."
