Mayor - Town Hall meetings

Its tough to be Mayor of New Orleans in late 2005. After Katrina, after the Garland Robinette interview, after Eddie Compass, Ray Nagin is still the Mayor.

Nagin has been to Baton Rouge, Houston, Memphis, Atlanta and even New Orleans to find the citizens of his city. He is consistently upbeat even when confronted with the most outrageous statements. He has presented a meaningful agenda and soldiered on when it was dismissed.

Sometime you can't win for nothing. On November 29th the press reported he was too accommodating after he listened patiently as citizen after citizen subjected him to fanciful tirades. The press wanted to see him react with a little more fire. If he had, you can be sure they would have flayed him alive.

PS: what about those buses? And just why are you encouraging people to return while there is no place for them to live. Isn't it time to coordinate the trailer placements a bit better.

As I watch the video of some of these meetings they make me think of an audience with a feudal monarch. Nagin sits at the head of a U shaped table. His advisers sit at the table like courtiers of old. Citizens approach and are heard. Nagin directs them  to the appropriate assistant.
