The local press presented a more factual account than the national press but there are still major problems in their coverage.
The Times Picayune is the metro area newspaper. They evacuated on
Tuesday as their Howard Avenue building flooded. They continued
publishing in exile using the web for delivery. They resumed print the
paper on date and returned to New Orleans on date. The post storm
archive contiunes as a valuable historical resource.
NOLA.com includes the online version of the Times Picayune
WWL-TV continued operations from the LSU campus studios in Baton Rouge and provided a web feed at wwl-tv.com.
Local stations in Baton Rouge, Houston, Dallas, and many other cities
hosted New Orleans local reporters and stories during the evacuation.
WWL Radio continued broadcasting throughout the storm and provided
a webcast through wwl.com. Eigth radio stations banded together
immediately after the strom to provide round the clock news coverage as
United Broadcasters of New Orleans. This collaboration was discontinued
in November as transmission and studio facilities were restored.
