At the north end of the Causeway, 24.6 miles from Metairie. Housing is
booming since the storm. A recent news story reported 200 houses
sold last year, 700 sold in three months after the storm, mostly to people from
Chalmette and St. Bernard.
To provide some sense of scale in this disaster consider the fact that
about 750 homes were substantially damaged or destroyed in the
Mandeville area. This fact has gone virtually unnoticed, swamped by the
much greater losses in Slidell, along the coast and in New Orleans.
Consider the outcry in an American city when a natural disaster claims
750 homes.
