Oil industry environmental damage comes in many forms. Some topics that deserve a look include:
-
The refineries have been in a pitched battle with the public for years.
Where there is smoke there is sometimes fire so I want to know if
refineries pollute.
-
Drilling platforms seem to be more beneficial as marine life flocks to
the artificial reefs created by the platforms. Just like the fishermen
who congregate at the hot water discharge near a nuclear power plant,
you see the fishermen congregating around the drilling platforms. They
know where the fish are and the fish wouldn't go there if it "smelled
bad." What about old platforms? What happens when they turn to rust? Do
plattforms leak oil after their useful lives? What about new platforms
that don't stirke oil? Who takes care of them when the owners are broke?
-
Canals dug to provide access are almost always bad. (Unless I happen to
catch a whole bunch of redfish). They chop up the marsh and let salt
water in.
-
Oil spills are bad but rare. And how bad are they?
-
Pipelines cross the marsh and I don't know if they are detrimental by
just being there. Or was it the construction taht was bad? Or do they
spill oil? Or are they benign?
-
All those boats can't be good but they just stir the mix and add a few organics.
