The Senate was reminded on Jan 23-24, 2006 of the 2004 Hurricane Pam study and the failure to act on its recommendations before Katrina. Michael Brown was trotted out for another go. The Committee Democrats acted surprised and took the opportunity to blast FEMA, DHS and the Administration. I wonder why?

A new email message surfaced that showed Department of Homeland Security was on alert on August 27-28th and expected the storm would breach the levees. This raised additional questions about why the response to actual events was so poor. Remembering that Bush was vacationing in Crawford, TX. Clarification of Bush's statement that the levee breaches were unforeseen may shed a little light. The spin doctors now say his comments were made in light of the press comments that New Orleans had dodged the bullet.

Congress and the White House continue to spar over the release of information to the Senate to investigate.
