AJAX technology used to improve
the user interface provides behind the scenes, asynchronous data
retrieval by client side code. Introduced in Google Maps Ajax has been
a big hit. Ajax is implemented using DOM and Javascript code the
browser can run.
Consencis has been exploiting the DOM and Javascript for
years. We have several applications that update the content of dropdown
lists on the fly as selections in other lists are made. There are lots
of very positive perfromance oriented things you can do on the client.
One of the most obvious and ignored by Microsoft is the client based
calendar control. Why would anyone require a roundtrip to the server to
pick a date?
More recently we've turned the Google Maps display into a useful
geo-positioning control.
By linking to Google Maps, Consencis includes some Ajax in its
applications. Much like the calendar control allows
selection of a date, the GoogleMap control allows precise graphical
specification of a location. xx1
