Jury Duty

Of course, like everything else jury duty in New Orleans is an extraordinarily fragmented affair. You can be called for Criminal District Court, Civil District Court, Federal Court, and even a grand jury. Every one has its own organization , employees and system of operations.

In one four year period I had the privilege of serving four times. Twice in Jefferson Parish (once criminal, once civil) and then after moving to Orleans twice more. The jury commissioners seemed to think I should be honored to serve. I was less than thrilled to spend so much time in waiting rooms and get on only one jury by a fluke when the plaintiff tried to represent herself. I did get a look at a few of the New Orleans ADA's who seemed young and over matched by the defense attorneys. However never seeing them past the voir dire, limits my appraisal of their talents.

Luckily the feds left me alone during this time frame.
