Flooded by federal levees that failed. These expensive homes were demolished. A few homes are being rebuilt. They have to be raised about ten feet above the ground.

  • Westend : A special sub-neighborhood. West end sprung up around construction of the New Basin canal (also known as the 17th Street Canal). Is home to the city's largest yacht basins and clubs. Boathouses grew popular and now the area boasts lots of condos and town homes. 

    Was home to a fine collection of seafood restaurants which where were undone by the triple threats of Hurricane Georges, the Big K, and a paid parking lot installed by the City of New Orleans possibly in retribution for the restaurants, built over water, being technically in Jefferson Parish for tax purposes. There is no question Big K was the final straw but the restaurants were sliding downhill from the day that parking lot was closed off.
