In a fascinating move in late January 2006 she notified the Mineral
Management Service that Louisiana would no longer be able to support
OCS oil drilling leases unless there was some revenue sharing to
preserve the environment. Her opposition could affect leases scheduled
for August.
In June she formally notified MMS of her opposition to proposed leases due to be released in August.
In July MMS announced they they are going ahead with the August leases.
The Governor has said she will oppose those leases. MMS seems unfazed
with her opposition. The Senate is expected to vote OCS revenue sharing in late July.
