World Climate Report
Temperature is increasing so if hurricane strength and intensity is tied to temperature, the number, ferocity and duration of storms should be increasing as well. Northern Hemisphere ACE data collected over several years ought to be positively correlated with temperature.

The data is not convincing so far. Worldwide ACE runs about 800 * 104 kts2 in 2006. Reviewing data  collected since 1986 provides a worldwide trend line that is almost flat but does include an increase of 2.13 per year. A much longer sample would be useful.

Six ocean basins are separately tracked. The North Atlantic Basin has shown a notable increase in ACE since1986. This may be more closely tied to the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation than to Global Warming. The NE Pacific and NW Pacific Basins have shown decreases in ACE over this timeframe. The North Indian, South Indian and South Pacific Basins have experienced little change.
