Nurses are in short supply than usual as evidenced by the premium local providers are paying for travel nurses. A 50% premium is typical. Currently hospitals are paying a 100% premium.

Trauma care in New Orleans was focused on the Level 1 Trauma Center at Charity Hospital reputedly the best in the country (practice makes perfect apparently applies to medicine as well as government). A new trauma center has been established at Elmwood.

Private practice doctors, nurses and dentists have been disappearing steadily. At the end of the school year we may see another exodus from the city. Psychiatrists have fled the city although there is an increased need for PTSD treatment.
