Managers in major corporations receive diversity training to acquaint them with some of the legal requirements of their jobs. The training protects the corporation. It protects the managers themselves if they apply the lessons well.

Many trainers also promote the idea that diverse teams perform better than homogeneous teams. Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don't.

Diversity includes more than race. Sex, religion, sexual orientation, family status, physical capabilities are all explored because they are the subject of federal and state laws protecting classes of people from discrimination.
