Flooding isn't the only disaster to reach New Orleans. Fire has been a frequent foe as well and has only been kept reliably in check for the past hundred years.

Since Katrina the prevalence of damaged and abandoned buildings has increased the frequency and intensity of fires but our firefighters have been up to the task. It has not always been so.
