As of 5/1/7 GCR & Associates Inc. (Greg Rigamer) is reporting
population in Orleans has reached 255,000. Heavy growth in the most
damaged areas accounts for the increase. With 35,000 in the New Orleans
East, more in Gentilly, Lakeview and the Lower Ninth, we are positioned
for the 2007 Hurricane Season to be another disaster. Levee repairs are
behind schedule, coastal restoration isn't happening and people are
coming back. The deadly and costly result is statistically predictable.
What was the population in Orleans starting 8/29/5 by week for the next
6 weeks? What was the lowest population excluding first responders
(that is, how many people refused to leave or were permitted to stay
for some reason, like the 1,000 police officers, the mayor and the
local press)?
What was the number of responders?
In May the Police Chief
released crime statistics claiming an
Orleans population of 221,000 for the first quarter. Getting an
accurate figure has become a problem. The Mayor constantly quotes
population figures that he admits includes day workers who leave
Orleans parish each night. Population figures do not typically include
such commuters.

November
survey by LRA door to door survey with 9.8% margin of error disputed by
Mayor who claims 230,000 to 250,000 maybe even 300,000 is more accurate
for Orleans.
