November 2007 was month 27 since Katrina. Bobby Jindal will be the new Governor of Louisiana and is already hard at work. Jindal and Blanco are trying to arrange a bail out for the Road Home. Odom and Foti are out. Then on October 30, under severe pressure due to the $3.7 million judgment from the lost civil rights suit, Jordan resigned leaving the city and state to figure out how to pay up. Trick or Treat!

Local politics will soon be taking a back seat to national politics. The local runoff election is scheduled for November 17th. The big race is for Council-at-Large where the balance of power is at stake with Cynthia Willard Lewis squaring off against Jackie Clarkson. Turnout for this and the few contested spots in the State Legislature probably won't exceed 15%. Louisiana should have adopted instant runoff voting years ago. Clarkson won with 53%. Nearly 25% of registered voters exercised their franchise with the notable exclusion of the mayor. What's up with that when even our mayor declines to vote in local elections.

In the cradle of corruption, Una Anderson and Stan Barre are mixing it up in public. He says, she says. He is a convicted criminal, but she is a politician and one of the N.O. School Board members who survived the purge. The FBI is investigating his allegation that she steered a garbage contract to some campaign contributors. Hey looka' that, Una is a runoff against Walker Hines. Who is Walker Hines? Doesn't that name ring a bell? Isn't his dad the attorney William Hines who defended good ole Stan? You betcha. What a coincidence. Keep an eye on that election on November 17 then see if the FBI ever proves a connection. It looks like the best in Louisiana politics playing out right in front of us again, and again, and again. Hines won on November 17.

But wait, somebody is stealing yard signs on the west bank. The State Senate runoff between David Heitmeire and Paul Richard must be pretty hot. Both sides report missing signs, defaced signs and even a vandalized home where a sign had been displayed. Come on guys! Heitmeire won with 67%, I guess the signs didn't have that much effect.

The Saints are back in our good graces and the bags were being put away after four straight wins. Then the 0-8 Rams gave 'em a drubbing and there was Haslett stalking the St. Louis sidelines. Houston made 'em look bad and a very bad Carolina team made em look good. LSU is still the local favorite and had a chance at another Championship until a couple of triple OT losses ruined their chances. Now everyone wants to know if LSU coach Les Miles will be going to Michigan.
