Tax Day comes and goes with a few Tea Parties and not much else. Americans celebrate the Sixteenth Amendment's 97th anniversary and pony up over one trillion dollars to the Federal government in personal income taxes. Other taxes including FICA, Medicare, corporate, and inheritance complete the federal tax picture but leave that government still holding a deficit of over a trillion dollars and a debt of more than 80% of the GDP.

Then on April 20, 2010 the Deepwater Horizon exploded and caught fire. Eleven were killed immediately and two days later the semisuubmersible drilling platform sank in 5,000 feet of water about 150 miles south south east of New Orleans. The rig sank to the sea floor a quarter mile east of where it exploded and a mile down. 5,000 feet of drill pipe collapsed around the well.  The blowout preventer at the well head failed. Oil under pressure spews from the broken well at 5,000 barrels per day according to government estimates ( this flow rate was later revised to 60,000 bbls per day ).
