The English privateer Treasurer brought 20 Africans to Virginia's Jamestown colony in 1619, the year before the Pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts. The Africans had been "rescued" from the Portuguese merchant-slaver ship San Juan Bautista but rather than being released as free men, they were sold in Virginia as indentured servants.

This decision led to four centuries of bad karma.

The story of Captain ?, his voyage and his fate could be interesting. stub fiction
