Flood Insurance rates are in the news as new FEMA regulations seem to put the city at risk. Its all in the Farm Bill in Washington D.C. and efforts by local legislators seem to be falling on deaf ears. In the meantime FEMA seems to be disputing reports of astronomical increases. News reports are short on facts but this is worth some digging. stub

The Alla and Choctaw Parades will move to the Uptown parade routes in 2014. Sounds like a name change is in store for Alla as the ALgiers LousianA meaning no longer fits.

Bernanke announced that the economy was doing well enough that he would begin to slow the bond buyback (ie QE3) perhaps as early as September. Stock markets worldwide reacted by pulling back 5 percent. Within days US GDP growth numbers were revised to an anemic 1.8% Unemployment remains stubbornly above 7.5% and underemployment continues to be a growing problem.

TED Talks featured a theme that won't go away. The jobs we've lost in the economy will never be back. Perhaps something new will come along to replace them, perhaps not. Machines, software and technology are doing many of the the things people used to do. Smart machines, imagine Siri with a Watson brain, will do more. Just how the economy changes to accommodate abundance is an interesting topic.

The toll booths at the CCC were removed in June. The lanes are still in place and re-striping has not begun. Without the booths, visibility is much better.
