Jon Bel Edwards takes over as Governor of Louisiana. He immediately faces a fiscal crisis and raises taxes while cutting popular spending. Depressed oil prices continue to limit revenue.
Critics point to Jindal's tax cuts and that is a factor. Problems run deeper and may be beyond Edward's ability to address with a Republican controlled state legislature. Raising sales taxes and cutting higher education and medicaid may be all that's available.
