1,200,000 were initially displaced. Many came home after a month but hundreds of thousands are still displaced. The map shows where they went. Many will never come back.

After three months 300,000 are gone from the metro area. 150,000 are still in shelters and  FEMA paid hotel rooms.  xx0,000 are receiving rental assistance.  xxx,000 have permanently left New Orleans.

900,000 are still in New Orleans and its surrounding communities but many are not in their own homes. These citizens are staying with family, friends and now in trailers. Many others scattered across Southeast Louisiana. St Tammany Parish and Baton Rouge. These cities are bursting at the seams. Traffic into the city each morning and out each evening is intense.

Other parts of Louisiana including Shreveport, Alexandria, Lafayette and Lake Charles Texas got the most of any state. Houston and Dallas got more than 10,000 each. Austin, San Antonio, and Atlanta host 5,000-10,000 each.

After a few months the novelty has worn off.
