The Central Louisiana Electric Coooperative was formed in 1934 to provide electric service to the primarily rural areas north of the lake. Now called Cleco this company still provides electric service to metro New Orleans north of Lake Ponchartrain including Slidell, Mandeville and Hammond. With 255,000 customers Cleco is big business.
