Past state Attorney General and current Couhig Partner Richard Ieyoub was initially tapped by the
mayor for a new coordinating role designed to tune up the sagging
criminal justice system in New Orleans.
On January 19,
2007 Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a press release welcoming Theophile A. Duroncelet, Jr. as the
new Director of the Office of Criminal Justice Coordination. This
appointment is a step further in the city’s proactive efforts to reform
the criminal justice system and combat crime. He reports to Colonel Terry Ebbert, the
Director of the Office of Homeland Security and Public Safety. Born and raised in New
Orleans, Duroncelet graduated from Tulane University with a degree in
Social Studies and continued his education at The California College of
Mortuary Science in Los Angeles. Duroncelet participated in a
Graduate-Court Executive Development Program at National Center for
State Courts in Virginia. He served as the U.S. Marshal for
the Eastern District of Louisiana. In this capacity, he coordinated
security for all the federal courts and facilities located within the
state’s Eastern District.
