Now What at the Corps?

They just don't get it! They are burning the midnight oil and a kings ransom to put the levees back like they were. Even they admit that when they are through the levees won't protect the city against much of a storm. They think the westbank will flood from a Category 2 and the eastbank from a Category 3. With their record you better evacuate if thunderstorms are predicted.

So you'd expect they would be trying to get it fixed. But they are not.

Even the inexpensive ($170 million) critical fix items surfaced by the BNOB Levees group are being ignored. Jefferson Parish is left to its own devices in trying to prevent the rainwater induced street flooding that occurred when the outfall canal pumps were shutdown.

MRGO is still open, the Industrial Canal is open to the lake, the GIWW is a threat to both the east and westbanks and  the Gulf is getting closer ever day as the wetlands erode and the land subsides. Colonel Richard Waggenar head of the Corps in New Orleans announced his intention to retire.
