A Failure of Initiative

This select committee of Republican Congressmen is critical of the government response at all levels. The Democratic leadership in the house refused to participate wanting an independent investigation instead.... that however is another story about the partisan bickering that characterizes our federal leadership. At 379 pages the report has a substantial "thud" factor. Click the title above to read the entire report for youself. As the title implies it is roundly critical of the response.

For a bit of fun - I've reproduced the page of quotes that were published on page v of the Preface.

"Pandemonium did not reign. It poured."
JOHN KENDRICK BANGS
American author and satirist

"Five frogs are sitting on a log. Four decide to jump off.
How many are left?
Answer: five.
Why? Because there’s a difference between deciding and doing."
MARK L. FELDMAN and MICHAEL F. SPRATT
American businessmen
Five Frogs on a Log

"Don’t find a fault. Find a remedy."
HENRY FORD
American automobile manufacturer

"Hurricane Katrina was a force of Nature.
What we’ve done after it is an Act of God."
Banner hanging in Harrison County, MS, Emergency Operations Center

In-i-tia-tive, n. The power or ability to begin or follow through energetically with a plan or task;enterprise and determination.

A FAILURE OF INITIATIVE v FEMA

(If you are curious about the last line above, it is shown as it appeared in the report but not as it was intended. It appears to suggest FEMA is a verb and the definition of "A Failure of Initiative." Actually the report title is "A Failure of Initiative" there was a space and "v"  was the page number. The word FEMA gets picked up unintentionally as the title of a photograph included at the end of page v. We all know FEMA is not a verb as that would imply action.  :-)
