Dillards purchased the D.H. Holmes department store chain in 1989 and entered the New Orleans retail market in a big way. Dillards operates 7 stores in the New Orleans area (including Houma) among its 329 stores nationwide.

The end of Daniel Henry Holmes 147 year old store added another line to the Benny Grunch hit single "Ain't dere no more." Meet'cha under the clock" at Holmeses was a New Orleans tradition. The Canal Street store is now a Chateau Sonesta Hotel with a Clock Bar (and now you know why).
