develop the idea....how much preservation is enough....is New Orleans suffering from too much preservation?

Recently a Catholic church built in the 1960's was torn down to make room for a new school. A bitter fight between progressives and preservationists almost killed the deal. The issue raises two questions about our maina for preservation. What should be preserved is the obvious question. The more important question is what are we building now that future citizens will want to preserve.
