The land is sinking and the roads show it. Add to this the leaking underground water supply and drainage pipes. Further add the road cuts made by repair crews. Subtract the losses in city budget and the higer costs of labor everywhere. It's hard to get to all the problems so the city has become more dangerous for drivers.
The problems are terrible in the damage areas where streets have buckled and heavy truck traffic has taken its toll. But problems are also bad in the densly populated areas that were less damaged by the storm.
In February 2007 the city rolled out a new truck that is supposed to be capable of repairing pot holes for $5 each.
