Both are in search of ratings. Cable news and talk radio provide a great opportunity for manufacturing opinion among malleable citizens.

Questions:
Is it propaganda? or just harmless entertainment?
Who supports it and why?
Why is there the intense focus on personalities with every utterance dissected while there's a near universal blackout on structures and processes?
Why do all the stations cover the latest sensation important or not to the exclusion of all else? Consider the near 24*7 coverage of the shootings in Tucson.
Is CNBC or Bloomberg the only real news stations? Reporting business
Has the Internet replaced TV in factual reporting leaving TV only its entertainment function?
