We had a couple of days at the end of August that felt very tropical. A wave, not even a depression washed over us and dropped hot wet rain for two days. Very little wind, no disruption of modern life. It was very civilized but distinctly uncomfortable. The rest of the month the weather was uneventful but still uncomfortably hot. A few days held a hint of the relief we'll feel next month.
Napoleon Avenue near Ochsner Baptist Hospital is a mess. Construction of drainage improvements is the cause.
Another big development in the
Danziger Bridge trial occurred in September. It seemed it was over back in 2011 with mutli-decade convictions but there has been a stunning reversal. The Judge ruled in favor of the defendants and threw out the convictions because of prosecution misconduct. He agreed with the defense that live blogging the case was prejudicial.
More traffic lights are flashing red in electronic distress than I can recall since just after the storm. The one near Rouses on Holiday Place is most curious. It has now been flashing for over two months. If it is long enough to install temporary stop signs, isn't it time to repair the thing? In fact it has become obvious that this one should be removed. At Meyer and Huntlee another useless light has been flashing for about three weeks and the newly installed fixtures at Holiday and MacArthur are pretty but inoperative and one even blocks the view of the old fixture that is still operating.
More murders, more poverty, more federal intervention in our schools, more amoeba's in the water, how could it get any better? Oh I forgot Saints Win!
