Sen. David Vitter - R

Votes the Republican Party line. Pro-war, anti-liberty. Espouses family values. But he tries to bring the pork home.

Unfortunately for Vitter, his stance on family values drew the attention of Hustler Magazine publisher Larry Flynt. Flynt has an axe to grind with Congress. In 2007 it fell on David Vitter. First Vitter appeared on the DC Madam's (Deborah Jeane Palfrey) call list and he admitted that he had sinned in D.C. years ago before becoming a Senator (he was in the House of Representatives then). He vehemently denied accusations that he had sex with a New Orleans prostitute. After a brief hiatus from the Senate he returned to applause of the Republican caucus.  He quietly went about getting back to work.

Largely left alone after his fifteen minutes of fame, he seemed about to reestablish normalcy until the Larry Craig, "wide-stance" incident in the Minneapolis Airport. Linked with other Republican scandals his name was dragged through the muck again, but as that news cycle died out he was still standing.

Then in September 2007 as Vitter was questioning Gen Petraeus on his Iraq War report to the Senate Foreign Relations committee, there was Wendy Ellis, the New Orleans prostitute, on the front page of the Picayune. It seems Larry Flynt bought her a lie detector test which she passed. She was defending her "integrity and self-respect." Her story and a revealing photo layout will appear in Hustler Magazine next spring, Vitter is not getting a free pass.

Vitter seems determined to simply tough it out. His Senate seat comes up in the 2010 elections.

Sen Mary Landrieu D
