Traffic, especially along I-10 through Metairie has been a nightmare since the storm. Construction add to the woes, but the real story is the population density. More people than ever live west of the city. Hardly any live to the east. Signal lights and pot holes are still problematic.

  • Pot Holes : The land is sinking and the roads show it. Add to this the leaking underground water supply and drainage pipes. Further add the road cuts made by repair crews.  Subtract the losses in city budget and the higer costs of labor everywhere. It's hard to get to all the problems so the city has become more dangerous for drivers. :: Continue reading...
  • Traffic Lights : Two hundred fifty intersections restored at a cost of $16 million in Orleans. Eighteen months after the storm, 29 Orleans intersections are still out of service and a few that have been repaired have failed again. Many seem to be routinely failing into the flashing red in both directions mode. A few others seem to have been permanently removed. :: Continue reading...
