2012 Isaac

Seven years to the day after "the Storm" hit New Orleans it was windy for a few days. It rained and stuff blew all over the place. They called it Hurricane Isaac, but it was not much. It did not flood and that was very, very good. Insurance companies got another dose of the hard reality that is South Louisiana in the 21st Century. I got a new roof and some related repairs.

This website took a nine day holiday because there was no power. The website was up, but there was no one behind it. The site is hosted in L.A. with backups all over the place so the storm did not affect operations. Nor did it affect any client websites.

Back in the city, this time the neighborhoods were OK. People stayed home and sweated in the heat. The biggest difference was that there were gasoline powered generators running everywhere. Talk about disturbing the peace.

FEMA wanted to be helpful but they just made it worse. Giving away free ice and MRE's was pathetic when basic services were working just fine. Lines formed and blocked roadways that should have flowed smoothly. Restaurants were open. Ice was plentiful in grocery stores. We just needed our power restored.

Out it the wetlands it was much worse. Isaac "ate" another 300 square miles of our protection from the sea. There is only about 10,000 square miles of that stuff left until "Surf's Up."
